Thinking Like An Owner As A Chief of Staff with Sarah Smith

Do you think like an owner as a Chief of Staff?

Do you think about the top and bottom line implications of your actions?

Do you see a problem and solve it, even though it is technically not your job?

For the last 8+ months, after leaving my job, I have been the sole owner of my time and career.

I have had to find work to do, and then execute it (hopefully well haha).

Some times you gotta put on a yellow vest for a project, right???

There are now real time tradeoffs for me.

There is always something that I think I could be doing.

I am thinking like an owner because technically I am one.

Are you?

Thinking Like An Owner As A Chief of Staff

Sarah Smith thinks like an owner as a Chief of Staff.

She has been an owner before too. During the pandemic, she co-founded a business that automated people sending cards to people that they love called Davie Co. She has had other entrepreneurial ventures as well.

Through these experiences and more, she understands business operations and the financial model of a company. She thinks about these things when she is working.

This is an attractive trait to employers. In fact, when interviewing for her current CoS role, she was asked about her prior cards business.

The projects (and companies) you build now can have long-term benefits for you.

In our new A Chief of Staff podcast episode, you will also learn about:

  • how AI is transforming her work and how one person can now have up to 6x the output with AI, compared to before.

  • to trust the process with your career and your career journey. It is easy to logically connect the dots of Sarah’s career looking back now. That said, she suggested that the same can happen for you too, if you trust the process and are patient.

Sarah also has a special request from listeners…. Listen to the episode to hear it!
